The revised Land Registry Ordinance (GBV) came into force on 1 January 2023 and brings with it important changes in the area of land registry management. Through the introduction of Article 949b in the Swiss Civil Code (ZGB), land registry offices will be obliged to use the AHV number as a method of identifying persons. This will enable authorities to establish beyond doubt whether a person is registered in the land register and what rights he or she holds.
Article 949c also regulates nationwide land searches for authorities. By establishing a national land search service, authorities will be able to access land register information more quickly and securely in the future. The service will be operational from 2024.
